Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Handbook of Catholic Theology provides a one-volume introduction to all the major aspects of Catholic theology. Part One considers the nature of theological thinking, and the major topics of Catholic teaching, including the Triune God, the Creation, and the mission of the Incarnate Word. It also covers the character of the Christian sacramental life and the major themes of Catholic moral teaching. The treatments in the first part of the Handbook offer personal syntheses of Catholic teaching, but each offers an account in accord with Catholic theology as it is expressed in the Second Vatican Council and authoritative documentation. Part Two focuses on the historical development of Catholic Theology. An initial section offers essays on some of Catholic theology's most important sources between 200 and 1870, and the final section of the collection considers all the main movements and developments in Catholic theology across the world since 1870. This comprehensive volume features fifty-six original contributions by some of the best-known names in current Catholic theology from the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa. The chapters are written in an engaging and easily comprehensible style functioning both as a scholarly reference and as a survey of the field. There are no comparable studies available in one volume and the book will be an indispensable reference for students of Catholic theology at all levels and in all contexts.

Book excerpt: This study of the literary culture in Britain in the years after Waterloo begins with an account of two fatal duels, the famous duel of 16 February 1821, in which John Scott, editor of the London Magazine, fell, and the less well known duel of 26 March 1822, in which Alexander Boswell, son of Johnson's biographer, was killed. These duels, Richard Cronin suggests, bring into sharp focus the distinctive features of literary culture in the years after Waterloo. The book ranges widely but at its centre are the three literary phenomena that best define the period: Walter Scott's novels, Byron's Don Juan, and the new literary magazines. It was a culture constituted not by the doctrine of sympathy that its leading writers held in common but by the antagonisms that divided them, a culture in which England vied with Scotland, literary and political principles converged, and there was a volatile relationship between the public and the private. These were the years in which publishing became an industry serving a mass readership, and literature came to be decisively identified with print rather than with manuscript. Its most prized cultural products were miscellaneous. Superficial, even heartless, responses to the world were valued. Male writers responded aggressively to the threat that literature might be a kind of writing largely consumed by women and increasingly produced by them. This was the culture that writers such as Wordsworth repudiated, but the relationship between the culture that Wordsworth represented and the culture that he opposed, like the relationship between duellists, was at once violently aggressive and mutually supportive: each, as many writers of the period recognized, was dependent on the other.

Book Borderless Envisioning and Experiencing One Church Community of Believers Without Walls Borders and Denominations

Download or read Borderless Envisioning and Experiencing One Church Community of Believers Without Walls Borders and Denominations PDF, written by Ambassador Oreojo Monday Ogbe and published by Otakada Inc. This book was released on with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “From the first Day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit has proven that He will only come to the degree that we have unity” – Rick Joyner If you take a look around our world today, walls are being erected everywhere between continents, countries, communities and families. Even the Church of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is not spared out of segregation and denominational divides right in our very midst. This book, Borderless – Envisioning and experiencing one church community of believers without walls, borders and denominations is about unity in the body of Christ. It is calling the church to a place of unity of Spirit in response to Jesus prayer that they may be one…John 17:22. A call to our various gathering to strive for unity. That we will all envision and experience a borderless church without walls, borders and denomination. A church that despite diversity will be united in spirit and engage as one as written in Ephesians 4:5-6 King James Version (KJV) 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. No more denominational walls and borders. Just one denomination - Jesus Christ, Our Lord and savior taking His place as the only supreme head of His church. It is an appeal and prayer to unity, to oneness, to love and to one body in one Christ Jesus. If after reading the book and you become burdened to the point of engagement with our other brothers and sisters in love in other gathering beyond your own familiar domain, creed, doctrine and denomination, then the book will have done its job and my job will have been dispensed. “Being prideful means having or showing an arrogant superiority to and disdain of that one view as unworthy. Pride can only be found where there is no love. Where there is no love, there is no God because God is love. Our love for God is the root while our love for the brethren is the fruit. Jesus says, a Christian will be known by the fruit of love they manifest. The world will know us by the love we have for one another.” – Monday Ogwuojo Ogbe “A House divided against itself cannot stand - True! Whether it is the family, Church or Nation! May the good Lord show us mercy and cause us to guard against the little foxes that subtly disrupts what is good. We pray for unity of purpose in Jesus name!” – Sola Ogunnaike. “Thank you, Monday, for this exposition. The church of Jesus Christ need to realize that the greatest message of love we send to the unbelieving world is our working in unity” – Grace Akuh. “We all need one another to be the complete reflection of Him.” – Rick Joyner “Thank you for taking on the presentation of the church history and how we got divided. I like the rich passages and perceptive insights. They are very useful.” – Dr. Daniel Obaka “Has it ever occurred to you that one hundred pianos all tuned to the same fork are automatically tuned to each other? They are of one accord by being tuned, not to each other, but to another standard to which each one must individually bow. So one hundred worshippers together, each one looking away to Christ, are in heart nearer to each other than they could possibly be were they to become ‘unity’ conscious and turn their eyes away from God to strive for closer fellowship.”- A.W. Tozer, (The Pursuit of God) “It is high time we do something about disunity in the body of Christ. Thank you for sharing information on other Christian groups and how we can connect with them” – Vera Atodo “A true non-denominational view holds that the body of Christ cannot be and should not be denominated”

Book excerpt: Angels, Spirits, principalities, powers, gods, Satanthese, along with all other spiritual realities, are the unmentionables of our culture. The dominant materialistic worldview has absolutely no place for them. But materialism itself is terminally ill, and, let us hope, in process of replacement by a worldview capable of honoring the lasting values of modern science without succumbing to reductionism. Therefore, we find ourselves returning to the ancient traditions, searching for wisdom wherever it may be found. We do not capitulate to the past and its superstitions, but bring all the gifts our race has acquired along the way as aids in recovering the lost language of our souls. In Naming the Powers I developed the thesis that the New Testament's principalities and powers is a generic category referring to the determining forces of physical, psychic, and social existence. In the present volume we will be focusing on just seven of the Powers mentioned in Scripture. Their selection out of all the others dealt with in Naming the Powers is partly arbitrary: they happen to be ones about which I felt I had something to say. But they are also representative, and open the way to comprehending the rest. They are: Satan, demons, angels of churches, angels of nations, gods, elements, and angels of nature.
